American Recycling Buys Innovative System from Eriez® and American Pulverizer
Erie, Pa.— Eriez®, a leading manufacturer to the recycling industry, announces that American Recycling, a scrap recycler based in New Jersey, has agreed to purchase a state-of-the-art scrap sorting system from Eriez via American Pulverizer Co. Mike Shattuck, Eriez Heavy Industries Project Manager, reports that the package price for the equipment purchased will exceed $700,000. “The new system will demonstrate a quick payback to American Recycling due to its ability to provide #1 shred quality steel, additional recovery potential and manpower savings,” says Shattuck.
American Recycling is a service oriented recycling company equipped to separate, sort and bale all types of recyclable materials, including both nonferrous and ferrous metals.
The system includes the following Eriez equipment:
-P-Rex™ Scrap Drum for improved ferrous recovery
-Shred1™ Separator to provide low copper frag
-90-inch ProSort II Airless Metal Recovery System
-60-inch FinesSort Jr. Metal Recovery System
-Rare Earth Eddy Current Separator
-Two Pulley Magnets
About the system:
The new CleanStream™ Process combines the Eriez P-Rex Drum and Eriez’ new Shred1™ Separator. The P-Rex Drum improves ferrous recovery by one to two percent while the new Shred1 Separator produces a low copper shred, a premium deliverable to the steel industry. The CleanStream Process produces the highest quality melt by separating clean ferrous from other materials. Besides improving both ferrous recovery and ferrous grade, the CleanStream Process also will reduce the number of hand sorters required on the processing line; this results in improved profitability for the recycler.
Eriez’ innovative Permanent Rare Earth Drum Magnet, or P-Rex, is a breakthrough in ferrous separation. P-Rex’s powerful permanent magnetic circuit, designed using sophisticated modeling techniques, is up to 40 percent stronger than an electro drum and is capable of moving large spherical objects at twice the distance! Current electromagnetic drum technology simply is not capable of sustaining a deep enough magnet field to attract much of the “heavy spheres” referred to as “meatballs” or “knuckles.”
Ideal for scrap processors, the new ProSort II Airless Metal Recovery System doubles the number of metal sensors found on the original ProSort machine and positions them on one-inch centers. These high resolution sensors are aligned with a new inverted paddle mechanism to improve recovery of valuable metals, including automotive wiring harnesses. This new arrangement improves large and small metallic recovery while producing a “cleaner” fraction.
The compact design of the FinesSort Jr. Metal Recovery System allows for efficient recovery of one-inch and smaller fines. It is a perfect solution for recyclers to increase profitability and send less metal particles to landfills. Similar to the FinesSort, the FinesSort Jr. receives discarded “fines” material that has passed through an initial screening process and creates two material streams: a clean nonferrous metals stream and a waste stream. The FinesSort Jr. not only reduces the amount of waste destined for landfill, but can reclaim thousands of pounds of metals per day.
Eriez Eddy Current Separators are ideal for material recovery facilities wishing to automate removal of nonferrous metals from trash, msw, sand, glass, dirt, CTD, electronic scrap and shredded automobiles. Eddy Current Separators are available in feed widths of 24, 36, 48, 60 and 84 inches (610, 914, 1220, 1524 and 2134 mm) and in either eccentric or concentric rotor designs.
Eriez Magnetic Pulleys are available in permanent designs. Eriez Permanent AIP Pulleys feature industry-leading magnetic field strength. They offer easy installation and self-cleaning operation. Eighty combinations of diameters from 8 to 36-inches (203 to 914mm) and belt widths from 8 to 60-inches (203 to 1524mm) are available.
Eriez is recognized as world authority in advanced technology for magnetic, vibratory and inspection applications. The company’s magnetic lift and separation, metal detection, x-ray, materials feeding, screening, conveying and controlling equipment have application in the process, metalworking, packaging, recycling, mining, aggregate and textile industries. Eriez manufactures and markets these products through ten international facilities located on six continents. For more information, call toll-free (888) 300-ERIEZ (3743) within the U.S. and Canada.
