Erie, Pa. — Eriez® offers the food and pharmaceutical industries the most state-of-the art cabinet x-ray machines available today. The company’s X-Ray Inspection Products Division includes two of the most experienced physicists on the globe: Richard Parmee, Eriez Partner and John Craig Lewis, Physicist.

Renowned physicist Richard Parmee is the founder of Cheyney Design and Development (CDD) and the Sapphire Alliance, a global group of the most experienced x-ray inspection companies who collaborate to produce the most reliable, best supported systems on the market. Parmee is recognized as the global authority on low-energy x-ray technology.  He has more than 35 years of experience in x-ray technology.

During his long and rich career, he has founded a number of successful companies, including AVS Metrology and AVS Raytech, which were acquired by Mettler Toledo, the largest company, worldwide, in weighing and end-of-line inspection technologies. He has also served as Managing Director at Safeline AVS Ltd., an automatic x-ray inspection systems manufacturer for the food and pharmaceutical Industries.

Parmee earned a Masters Degree in  Natural Sciences/Electrical Sciences from University of Cambridge – Pembroke College, where he also went on to research for his PhD on Digital Signal Processing.

Parmee has perfected the adaptive algorithms that are employed in Eriez E-Z Tec® XR brand of x-ray machines.  Along with the entire team, Parmee is continuously working on product improvements and new product development to ensure Eriez remains on the leading edge in x-ray technology.

John Craig Lewis has accumulated 40 years of experience in scientific research. Over the course of his career, he has designed image processing systems for x-ray and nuclear magnetic resonance tomography at Picker X-ray Company, which became a division of General Electric Corporation during his tenure.

He attended the University of Akron and Case Western Reserve University, graduating with a degree in Physics with a second major in Mathematics.  He also completed more than 1,000 hours of classroom work in digital and analog electronics. As a student at the University of Akron, Lewis performed x-ray crystal spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance research projects.

Working under a National Science Foundation grant at Case Western Reserve University, he was responsible for set up and operation of the three million volt proton accelerator to perform nuclear spin-spin diffraction studies, gamma radiation diffraction studies, data collection and data analysis computing.

“No one in the world has more background in x-ray technology than our team,” says Charlie Ingram, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Eriez set the industry standard for foreign object detection, safety, reliability and repeatability.” He adds, “Eriez is taking foreign object detection to a whole new level.”

Eriez E-Z Tec Inspection Systems, which are made in the USA, are in operation at a wide array of companies around the world, protecting users from potential costly and reputation-damaging product contamination problems. Greg Hefter, Plant Engineer at Ready Foods Inc. explains that employing Eriez X-Ray Inspection technology has given his company another layer of protection. “Since Ready Foods’ installation of our Eriez X-Ray System, not only have we reduced the number of customer complaints on the product the equipment was purchased for, but we have been able to utilize the Eriez X-Ray System for additional products to ensure product safety prior to release for sale,” says Hefter.

For customers who want to see if x-ray equipment is right for them before making a purchase, Eriez now offers free online x-ray testing.  Customers can submit product samples for testing and receive an instantaneous analysis from Eriez.  Customers can “virtually" attend the material test in real time with Eriez' interactive online x-ray testing via a password-protected Web site. Participants will see their products passing through an Eriez E-Z Tec X-Ray Inspection System to determine its performance for foreign object detection, mass, fill level or missing items. Multiple viewers can watch from different locations and direct questions live to Eriez' test personnel.
