Erie, Pa. — Eriez' new Shred1™ Ballistic Separator uses ballistics to efficiently separate iron-rich ferrous from much of the mixed metals and waste material in the post drum magnet flow. Eriez’ new free full-color brochure, “Shred1 Ballistic Separator Produces a Low-Copper Shred,” showcases the many advantages of this cutting edge Separator.

The Shred1 Ballistic Separator delivers three distinct fractions: a premium low-copper ferrous product, a traditional #2 shred and a heavy/light/waste mix. The literature offers detailed information explaining what users can expect from each fraction.

According to the brochure, the Shred1 Ballistic Separator combined with Eriez’ P-Rex®Permanent Rare Earth Magnetic Drum improves the entire scrap metal separation process. Not only does this new CleanStream™ Process recover more ferrous and concentrate 75 percent of the post drum magnet flow into a low-copper premium shred, but it also eliminates the need for a scavenger magnet, a z-box air system and hand picking the entire flow.

The brochure also includes a table that shows how the Shred1 compares to XRF technology when it comes to removing copper from certain contaminants and how the CleanStream Process separates copper more efficiently than handpicking. Materials containing copper include small electric motors, wire harnesses, aluminum pieces, refrigerator compressors, meatballs and copper nickel.

Also included is a drawing that illustrates the CleanStream Process flow as well as a drawing highlighting the traditional scrap metal separation process flow. While traditional methods produce a #2 quality fraction, the CleanStream Process produces a low copper content #1 Shred (<.17%), a premium deliverable to the steel industry.
