Erie, Pa. — Eriez® has produced a new 2 ½ minute demonstration video featuring the company’s state-of-the-art Shred1™ Ballistic Separator. This revolutionary separator delivers three distinct fractions: a premium low-copper content #1 Shred (<.17%), a traditional #2 shred and a heavy/light/waste mix.

The video shows the Shred1 Ballistic Separator in operation and points out, through graphic overlay, the three types of fractions the Shred1 captures. The video also demonstrates how workers are situated around the Shred1 to manually sort out some of the recyclable material.

The three fractions and their characteristics produced by the Shred1 Ballistic Separator include the following:

  • Fraction one is a high-value, low-copper content ferrous product worth more than a #2 grade fraction. According to Eriez®, demand for this premium product is on the rise. Fraction one contains 70-80 percent of the flow and contains less than .2 percent copper…often under .17 percent.
  • Fraction two represents less than 20 percent of the flow and contains mostly mixed metals, copper and aluminum with steel housings or cores. Hand sorting can be accomplished with relatively few pickers. After hand picking this smaller volume, this is a #2 grade ferrous product.
  • Fraction three is optional. It consists of heavy steel objects and light material, such as fluff, rubber and some wire. This fraction is picked or hand sorted. Fraction three contains only 5-7 percent of the flow.
