Penn State Study Gives Highest Pull Strength Rating to Eriez® RE Tube Magnets, including Super B Ferrous Traps for 2”-4” Pipelines
Erie, Pa. — A research study conducted by Penn State University on the pull strength of Rare Earth magnetic tube magnets gave the Eriez® line of Xtreme™ RE magnets its highest rating. The Eriez Xtreme units include its Super B Model Ferrous Traps for 2”-4” pipelines.
Literature highlighting the Penn State University study, “Performance Testing of Rare Earth Magnetic Tube Circuits,” is available for free download at http://en-us.eriez.com/Products/DownloadsAndTools/ReferenceMaterials/Xtreme.
The Penn State University study was commissioned by Eriez to determine which commercial tube magnets provide the greatest opportunity to remove dangerous ferrous metal and weakly magnetic contaminants from process flows in industrial applications.
Magnets from nine manufacturers were Gauss tested and subjected to a pull test. The gauss readings were measured using an F.W. Bell Model 6010 Gauss meter with an axial probe. The pull test readings represent the force required to remove a ¼-inch mild steel sphere from the tube surface.
The Eriez Super B Ferrous Traps are available in Xtreme Style Rare Earth easy-to-clean elements that ensure complete removal of fine iron contaminants and speed up the cleaning process. The RE Ferrous Traps are made with Erium® 3000, which contains a magnetic field up to 25 times the strength of conventional magnets.
These Super B Model Ferrous Traps preserve product purity by removing small particles of magnetic scale, rust and fine iron contamination. These separators are ideal for liquid purification and a variety of wet separation applications. These traps feature powerful, permanent magnetic elements that handle materials with temperatures up to 250° F (121° C) with special models available to 400° F (204° C).
The Standard Super B Model Ferrous Traps feature cast-type 316L stainless steel body, type 316 stainless steel cover plate, 316 stainless steel magnetic fingers, nitrile gasket and standard pipe threads. The Sanitary Super B models feature the same general construction except for no cracks or crevices, satin finish on interior and exterior surfaces and Acme sanitary threads or ferrule ends.
Eriez offers a variety of models within the Super B Ferrous Trap category. Super B-2 and Super B-3 have five magnetic fingers while the Super B-4 has six magnetic fingers. Flanged or ferrule ends—such as Cherry Burrell, Tri-Clover and others—are available in 2, 3 and 4-inch sizes.
Select sizes of Super B Ferrous Traps are available for next day shipment through the ProGrade® Program. Upon credit approval, orders received at Eriez USA by 4 p.m. will be processed and shipped the next business day.
