Stiles Blacks-Out Office Towers in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Tampa to Support Earth Hour

Fort Lauderdale, FL. – March 24, 2011 – While millions of homes, businesses and national landmarks will go dark Saturday night as part of Earth Hour, a global movement to raise awareness of climate change and energy efficient practices, Stiles Property Management, a division of Stiles, will show its support by blacking-out non-essential lighting in all of its office buildings in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Tampa, Florida. That means a near black-out for the famous Las Olas strip in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, where Stiles manages most of the office buildings. Additionally, Stiles will flip the switch on the iconic ziggurat that crowns the SunTrust Financial Centre in downtown Tampa and lights the city’s night sky. As a part of Stiles’ sustainability mission, the company encourages its employees and tenants to turn off all non-essential lights from 8:30-9:30 p.m. EST on March 26th.
“Earth Hour is one of the many ways in which we celebrate sustainability and show our impact on the markets we serve. When our managed office towers across Florida’s major cities, such as Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando and Tampa go black on Saturday night, it will send a clear message to onlookers that we can all make a difference with the flip of a switch,” said Chris Rotolo, president of Stiles Property Management.

- SunTrust International Center at One SE Third Ave. in downtown Miami

Earth hour is one of Stiles’ many environmentally friendly and sustainable initiatives. In recent years, Stiles has launched its corporate sustainability program in each of its managed buildings totaling seven million square feet. This program includes advanced recycling systems, reduced electricity consumption through light sensor technologies and reduced water consumption through faucet sensors. In addition, Stiles uses only green cleaning products that are environmentally safe, Green Seal Certified, bio-renewable and do not contain volatile organic compounds that could compromise indoor air quality.
“Our sustainability program has resulted in cost savings to our tenants and owners while helping to reduce Stiles’ carbon footprint on the environment, and we are committed to expanding on our green efforts to create further value for the long term,” said Rotolo. “Demonstrating the tangible value Stiles Property Management brings to the table, in just the last year we have realized a total savings throughout our office portfolio of more than $1.5 million in electricity costs and $24,000 in water costs, which equates to 10 million gallons.”
