Stockholm economy: Third  quarter of growth in 2014

Business in Stockholm continued to develop positively in the third quarter of 2014 too. Total wages showed increased growth in both the county and the city of Stockholm. Almost 5,000 new companies were registered in Stockholm county during the third quarter, of which nearly 3,000 were in the city of Stockholm. This is what Stockholmskonjunkturen’s third report for 2014 shows.

The labor market is also developing positively. The number of job openings is increasing at same time as layoffs continue to decrease. Unemployment is decreasing in both the city and the county compared with the same quarter last year. Total wages increased in the third quarter of 2014 by 6.2 per cent in the city of Stockholm and 5.0 per cent in Stockholm county compared with the preceding quarter. This can be compared with 4.4 per cent for the rest of the country.

The number of new businesses continues to grow, and the number of bankruptcies fell compared with the same quarter the year before. During the third quarter, 4,801 companies were started in the county, of which 2,802 were in the city. This means an increase of 7 per cent in the county and 10 per cent in the city compared with the same quarter the year before.

During the third quarter of 2014 the county’s population increased by just over 11,000 inhabitants, almost 5,000 of which were in the city.
