Bo Kjellén receives Honorary Doctorate from Stockholm University
SEI Senior Research Fellow and Former Chief Climate Negotiator for Sweden, receives Honorary Doctorate from Stockholm University in Sweden. Today Bo Kjellén is giving his Honorary Doctorate lecture on “The Anthropocene and the Evolution of International Law and Governance”.
“I am privileged to receive this Honorary Doctorate and happy for the recognition. Through my work on climate change policy I might have been able to influence the international frameworks, with an emphasis of having developing countries as active participants in the process,” says Bo Kjellén at the Stockholm Environment Institute.
As a Senior Research Fellow at SEI, Kjellén is an active member of the global research group on climate change where he contributes to project development, mentors colleagues, and gives frequent lectures. Ambassador Kjellén is also a prolific author on the topic of climate negotiations, policy and diplomacy including the book A new diplomacy for sustainable development: The challenge of global change.
“Humanity has full responsibility now for the whole planet and our survival is at stake,” said Bo Kjellén in an interview in 2009. “Further down the line, I believe that things in 2050 will look better than some of us predict today.”
Bo Kjellén is a former ambassador for Sweden and for several years he was Sweden's chief negotiator in the global climate negotiations. He led part of the international negotiations for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and had a key role in the negotiations for the Kyoto Protocol. Bo Kjellén was also chairman of the international negotiations on the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), adopted in 1994.
Today, Bo Kjellén is giving his Honorary Doctorate lecture on “The Anthropocene and the Evolution of International Law and Governance” at Stockholm University, Sweden.
