Actress Gunnel Lindblom is honored with the Stockholm Achievement Award 2018
Gunnel Lindblom’s breakthrough performance was in Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal, a film considered to be a classic of world cinema. This year, the iconic actress and director is honored with the Stockholm Achievement Award for her contributions to Swedish film. Gunnel Lindblom will accept her award in conjunction with the screening of the documentary Searching for Ingmar Bergman on November 11th.

The Stockholm Achievement Award 2018 is presented to Gunnel Lindblom with the motivation:
This year’s Stockholm Achievement Award is presented to an actress and director who with her artistic force has achieved more than most in her long career in film and theater. She is an icon and has delivered captivating performances in some of the most celebrated films in the history of Swedish cinema, as well as being successful in her work as a director. With strong artistic integrity and a unique voice, she has mastered the art of portraying emotions with minimal expressions. Gunnel Lindblom has captured the hearts of her audience for almost 70 years with her big personality in front and behind the camera.
Gunnel Lindblom began her career in front of the camera and on stage in her hometown Gothenburg in the early 1950s. Her on screen debut was in Gustaf Molander’s film Love (1952) and a few years later she was invited to work with Ingmar Bergman at Malmö City Theatre. The same year (1957), Gunnel Lindblom played roles in two of Swedish cinema’s most celebrated films: The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries. Her breakthrough role was as Gretchen in Bergman’s theater adaptation of Goethe’s Faust. Her long career also includes films such as The Silence (1963), Winter Light (1963), Loving Couples (1964), The Girls (1968), Swedish Heroes (1997) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009).
Lindblom has also directed four feature films including the Guldbagge-winning abortion drama Sally and Freedom (1981), as well as close to 30 productions at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm.
Gunnel Lindblom will accept the Bronze Horse in conjunction with the screening of Margarethe von Trotta’s documentary Searching for Ingmar Bergman on Sunday, November 11th at 3:00 PM at the Skandia movie theater in Stockholm.
A short version of Henrik von Sydow’s documentary Gunnel Lindblom – out of silence will be screened during the award ceremony. Thereafter, members of the press and public are invited to ask Gunnel Lindblom questions.
After the screening of Searching for Ingmar Bergman, members of the press and public are invited to ask questions to director Margarethe von Trotta.
Tickets will be released on Tuesday, October 16th at 10:00 AM at www.stockholmfilmfestival.se.
