Baz Luhrmann´s epic romantic action adventure “Australia” has joined forces with the Stockholm International Film Festival to create an on-line film competition culminating with four finalists attending the Swedish premiere during the festival in November.

During the filming of “Australia”, Baz Luhrmann and his production team produced a series of pod cast episodes explaining the different aspects of moviemaking. These pod casts will be the basis for the creative challenge.

Based on these episodes, the audience is challenged to re-create a scene from their favourite movie within the genres of epic love story, horror, action and comedy. The short episodes, no longer than 1-3 minutes, will be up-loaded to a special section on the festival website and four finalists will be selected by a jury of professionals from each of the different areas of filmmaking. The jury will include, amongst others, the Swedish directing-duo Björn Stein and Måns Mårlind, who just wrapped the thriller “Shelter” starring Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

“We are tremendously excited about the project,“ said festival director Git Scheynius. “The festival has always supported and promoted new and daring filmmakers and this is yet another step in that direction. Having your short screened prior to an epic like “Australia” is a truly unique opportunity for any up-and-coming film maker.”

The winning film will be screened prior to the feature “Australia” at several of its screenings in Sweden.

The competition will be launched on the campaign site www.stockholmfilmfestival.se/australia today, Tuesday September 9th, 2008 at 12.00 am EST.
