Bronze Horse awarded to critically acclaimed actress, Isabelle Huppert
This year the prestigious Bronze Horse is presented to one of the most diverse and intrepid film personalities ever, the French actress, Isabelle Huppert. In November she will personally visit Stockholm to receive the prestigious award and engage with festival audiences.
Motivation: Ever since The Lacemaker, Isabelle Huppert has spun her threads of many colors into her artistry. These threads, bursting with emotions, insights and experiences, are woven together throughout her unforgettable film portraits. Fearlessness and contemplation are the opposing poles in the space where her characters are created and exist. She is the muse to the greatest of film auteurs, and at the same time, her own incomparable auteur.
Isabelle Huppert exudes a strong integrity and never backs away from controversial or challenging roles, such as that of Erika Kohut in Haneke’s The Piano Teacher for which she was praised as Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival. She has also made memorable interpretations of a wide range of roles, including those in Heaven's Gate, I Heart Huckabees and Francois Ozon’s 8 Women, which has been shown at the festival. Later, she made a success as an African coffee plantation owner in White Material by Claire Denis.
Isabelle Huppert’s numerous honors include the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for both The Piano Teacher (M. Haneke) and Violette (C. Chabrol), and the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival for La Cérémonie (C. Chabrol) as well as Story of Women (C. Chabrol).
Isabelle Huppert will visit the Stockholm International Film Festival (November 9 to 20) where she will be presented with the Bronze Horse and participate in an exclusive Face2Face.
The award, in the form of a 7 kg Bronze Horse, has previously been given to actors and directors such as Roman Polanski, Lauren Bacall, David Lynch, Charlotte Rampling and Wong Kar Wai.
