Official Program for the 30th Stockholm International Film Festival
Today, the official program for the 30th Stockholm International Film Festival is announced. This year’s Spotlight is “Mafia – organized crime” and it’s the festival’s most equal program to date, with 40 percent female directors. The festival will take place 6-17 November and 150 films from over 60 countries will be presented.
The Festival celebrate its 30th Anniversary by paying tribute to French cinema. The festival will open with Marriage Story by Noah Baumbach, with Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver starring in the leading roles.
– We’re very proud to present some of the best films of the year at our 30th Anniversary. We have more female film makers than ever before and shed light on our time where organized crime has become part of our everyday life, says Festival Director, Git Scheynius.
Over 25 films from France is presented, including titles such as France’s Oscar submission Les Misèrables by Ladj Ly, The Specials by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, By the Grace of God by François Ozon and Atlantics by Mati Diop.
A selection of films that will be presented during the festival in November includes titles such as Matthias & Maxime by Xavier Dolan, The Souvenir by Joanna Hogg, The Farewell by Lulu Wang, The Report by Scott Z. Burns, Ema by Pablo Larraín, Beanpole by Kantemir Balagov, Synonyms by Nadav Lapid, The Lighthouse by Robert Eggers and the Palme d'Or winner Parasite by Bong Joon-ho. The centerpiece film is Knives out by Rian Johnson.

This year’s Spotlight films deals with the theme “Mafia – organized crime”. They all depict the time we live in today, and how organized crime took over our world – and the big screen. Titles includes Sea of Shadows by Richard Ladkani and Piranhas, by Claudio Giovannesi, based on the world-famous Gomorrah-author Roberto Saviano’s novel The Piranhas: The Boy Bosses of Naples. 2019 Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to one of the world’s most prominent actors of all time Max von Sydow. At the Stockholm Film Festival’s 30th Anniversary it is with special pride we thank our former honorary chairman, for long and faithful service to cinema.
As previously announced, this year’s recipient of 2019 Stockholm Achievement Award is the Iranian actor Payman Maadi. He will accept the Bronze Horse at the Nordic premiere of Just 6.5, this years’ most seen film at Iranian movie theatre's, 6:00 pm, November 14th at Skandia in Stockholm.
The recipient of the 2019 Stockholm Visionary Award is the French director Céline Sciamma, who will visit the festival with her latest film Portrait of a Lady on Fire starring, Stockholm Film Festival visitor, Adèle Haenel. Céline Sciamma will accept the Bronze Horse at the film’s Scandinavian premiere, 4:00 pm, November 9th at Skandia in Stockholm.

Recently, the five nominees for Stockholm Rising Star was announced. Albin Grenholm (Eld & lågor), Emelie Garbers fd. Jonsson (Aniara), Arvin Kananian (Aniara), Celie Sparre (Lyckligare kan ingen vara och In i dimman) and Freddy Åsblom (In i dimman) is the five nominees that has potential to become a big star in the future.

The scholarship 1 Km Film is one of Sweden’s biggest short film competitions that give young filmmakers the possibility to reach their film dreams. The winner will get to make a short film that is screened at the next year’s festival. The winner of 1 Km Film 2018, Julia Thelin have her world premiere with the film Lilla Olle, at the Stockholm International Film Festival’s Opening ceremony, 6th November 2019.

Tickets to the festival are released today at 12:00 am at www.stockholmfilmfestival.se/en.
Tickets will also be available for purchase during the program release party tonight at Alma, Nybrogatan 8 in Stockholm from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.
The official festival center opens today at Sturegallerian, October 15th at 12:00 am. Membership cards and tickets will be available for purchase there. The Official Program will also be available for pick-up.
