Young Swedish talents nominated at Cannes Film Festival
Stockholm International Film Festival celebrates the news that Swedish directors Elin Övergaard and Levan Akin will be competing at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Both talents started their careers at the Stockholm Film Festival, an important platform for young aspiring filmmakers in Sweden.
Swedish talent Elin Övergaard and her short film ”Ingen lyssnar” ("Who Talks") is nominated for the prestigious short film award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Elin started her career as a filmmaker at an early age. She was only 12 years old when she won the short film competition for youngsters at Stockholm Film Festival Junior in 2007.
Elin was later nominated for the short film award 1 km film in both 2013 and 2017. The 1 km film award is a scholarship for young filmmakers, founded by Stockholm Film Festival.
Elin is not the only Swedish talent in Cannes this year.
”And Then We Danced” by Swedish-Georgian director Levan Akin will be screened in the Director’s Fortnight section at the Cannes Film Festival.
Levan was also nominated for the short film award 1 km film in 2008. His first full length feature ”Katinkas kalas” had it’s premiere at Stockholm Film Festival in 2011.
- It feels absolutely amazing that Stockholm Film Festival has had the privilege to follow Elin and Levan through the early beginnings of their careers, says Git Scheynius, Festival Director.

The 30th Stockholm International Film Festival in 6-17 November 2019.
Stockholm International Film Festival started in 1990 and is today one of the leading competitive film festivals in Europe. The festival takes place every year in November with more than 150 films from more than 60 countries. More than a festival: we organize exclusive screenings and the popular Summer Cinema – an outdoor filmfestival in August. Every year in spring, April 1-6, the Stockholm International Film Festival Junior brings the latest films to youngsters between 6 and 19 years of age.
