The Danish company Unifeeder A/S was awarded Ports of Stockholm’s Environmental Buoy 2010. The reason for this honour was:”Ports of Stockholm’s Environmental Buoy is awarded to Unifeeder A/S for the exemplary development of a means of calculating the carbon dioxide savings of sea transportation.”

Unifeeder has demonstrated in a tangible and pedagogic manner that transport purchasers can contribute to meaningful environmental benefits by utilising local shipping options instead of overland transport by road and rail. By going to the company’s website transport purchasers and other interested parties can use the carbon calculator to quickly determine the carbon dioxide emission savings of transporting goods by sea.

“Unifeeder has demonstrated that voluntary environmental efforts can make a difference and their work is a further example of the environmental commitment that many companies have,” said Ulla Hamilton, Chair of the Board of Ports of Stockholm and the Stockholm City Commissioner responsible for traffic, the employment market and commercial issues.

“We are extremely pleased to receive this award. We view this as recognition of the Shortsea Concept that provides the opportunity to transport goods over shorter distances within Europe in a more environmentally friendly way. The idea behind the CO2 calculator was to demonstrate to companies that these environmental benefits are significant. Swedish industry, which wants to be a leading actor in environmental issues, now has the possibility to demonstrate this not only in words but also in deeds by choosing the more environmentally friendly alternative. We are looking forward to coping with the increased interest from commercial stakeholders,” said Lars Rexius, Unifeeder’s Regional Manager for Sweden.
