STORA ENSO OYJ PRESS RELEASE 15 October 2014 at 12.00 EET

Stora Enso was recognised today as a leading company in terms of the disclosure of data related to climate change to investors and other stakeholders. Released by the international non-governmental organisation CDP, the CDP Nordic 2014 Report gives Stora Enso the highest possible score in the Nordic Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).

Stora Enso submitted climate change information through CDP’s global environmental disclosure system for independent assessment. Company disclosures to CDP are rated out of a total of 100, and Stora Enso achieved the maximum score. High scores indicate that a company provides robust climate data with a high level of transparency.

“Solid reporting of data and transparency are key elements in our Global Responsibility work at Stora Enso,” says Terhi Koipijärvi, acting EVP, Global Responsibility. “We work hard to maintain high standards in our environmental and social responsibility reporting. The data informs and guides our work, and is something that our stakeholders increasingly expect from us.”

According to Paul Simpson, Chief Executive Officer of CDP, “Global greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, and we will face steep financial risks if we do not mitigate them. The need for data on corporate climate change impacts and strategies to reduce them has never been greater. For this reason we congratulate businesses responding to the ever-growing demand for environmental accountability, and should inspire others.”

Disclosures to CDP’s climate change programme meet the needs of 767 institutional investors with assets totalling more than USD 92 trillion, which is around a third of the world’s invested capital. CDP disclosure scores are provided to help investors and other decision-makers assess corporate preparedness for market demands and emission regulations.
