European Commission moves towards decision on merger of STORA and Enso

EUROPEAN COMMISSION MOVES TOWARDS DECISION ON MERGER OF STORA AND ENSO Karel van Miert, EU Commissioner on competition matters, said yesterday that he will propose that the merger of the Finnish company Enso and the Swedish company STORA be approved. The European Commission has confirmed that they will deliver its decision on the matter on Wednesday, November 25, 1998. During this autumn, there has been speculation that the proposed merger would require Enso and STORA to divest parts of their paper and board production capacity. Proposals submitted by Enso and STORA to the European Commission contain no such measures.
