Storytel goes live in Israel today
Storytel, one of the world’s largest subscription services for audiobooks and e-books, goes live in Israel today. The launch of the local Storytel app is the next step into the growing Israeli audiobook market and follows Storytel’s acquisition of the local pioneer in audiobook streaming, iCast Ltd, in August 2020.
“We are very pleased to be able to launch Storytel in Israel, where iCast, as the pioneer streaming audiobook service, not only has established the audiobook on the market, but also built up a relationship with publishers, libraries and other partners”, says Ingrid Bojner, Chief Commercial Officer at Storytel.
“I am convinced that Storytel’s Israeli app and establishment on the tech-savvy Israeli consumer market, with its strong storytelling tradition, will add an additional dimension to the everyday life of Israeli readers and listeners. It will be an exciting new chapter for the streamed audiobook and the Israeli entertainment industry in general”, says Ingrid Bojner.
The launch of Storytel in Israel will entail iCast’s performance regarding content, scale, technological resources, creating conditions for taking the Israeli audiobook market to the next level in terms of user experience, content development, production and marketing. Israeli consumers can expect a quality catalogue that includes bestsellers, classics and contemporary works by popular authors, including Meir Shalev, Eshkol Nevo, Yuval Noah Harari and A.B. Yehoshua. Initially, the titles will be offered in Hebrew, Russian and English. More languages will be added after today’s launch.
“In the past all the people who came to author events told me they read my books. But in recent years more and more people are telling me that they have listened to my books. For me, it's wonderful. Beyond the fact that it allows new audiences access to my work, the vocal performance enlivens the written word and loads it with emotion”, says Israeli author Eshkol Nevo.
“Since the streamed audiobook has already been launched on the Israeli market, we can focus our efforts solely on helping more people discover the benefits of being able to listen to great stories anywhere and anytime. iCast’s unique local expertise and Storytel’s comprehensive investments in content, user-friendly technology, and access to popular stories combine to make Storytel’s Israeli app a strong offer. I look forward to being able to offer Israeli consumers an unbeatable listening experience”, says Moti Lippmann, Country Manager for Storytel Israel and founder of iCast.
