Straumur-Burdaras Investment Bank (“Straumur-Burdaras” or the “Bank”), a leading Nordic Investment Bank, today announces that it has hired Höskuldur Hauksson, who was until recently at Goldman Sachs, as Managing Director of the Bank’s Capital Markets operations. Mr Hauksson will lead the Bank’s development and further growth in Capital Markets operations in both the UK and Nordic region.

Höskuldur, aged 37, joined Goldman Sachs in 2003 as Executive Director and Commodity Strategist where he was responsible for developing commodity-linked investor business and co-ordinating a team of seven strategists in London, New York and Singapore. Previously, Höskuldur worked as Head of Research at RWE Trading. He holds a double BSc in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Iceland and a PhD in Mathematics from the University of California.

Straumur-Burdaras commenced operations in London on 1 January 2007 with an initial focus on lending activities and particular emphasis on syndicated loans. Preparations for Capital Markets operation in London are in progress and it is anticipated that the operations will be expanded to include provision of corporate finance services to small and mid-sized companies (“SMEs”), to complement Straumur-Burdaras’ activities in its other geographical markets of operation.

Commenting on the appointment, Fridrik Jóhannsson, Chief Executive of Straumur-Burdaras, said:
“I am delighted to confirm the important hire of Höskuldur Hauksson to lead the international expansion of our Capital Markets operations. We see establishing a firm foothold in London as a key part of our strategy to become an international investment bank and look forward to increasing our UK operations substantially. Höskuldur is the ideal choice to ensure that we achieve our aims both in the UK and internationally.”
