Floreon are pleased to announce that Dr John Williams, an expert in renewable, biodegradable and compostable biomaterials, has joined the Floreon team as a Non Executive Director.
Dr John Williams has had a career spanning more than 14 years in the renewable technologies industry, where he has developed his expertise. He was Head of Materials for Energy & Industry at National Non Food Crops Centre (NNFCC) for 7 years, where he was responsible for bio-derived polymers, composites, fibres and wastes including renewable construction materials. John is currently the Chief Technical Officer at Sinvestec LLC, a specialist private investment company concentrating in clean and renewable technologies.
Dr John Williams said;
“I’m delighted to be able to join the team. The formula that we’ve developed with Floreon gives us the opportunity to drive forward the bioplastic agenda with a product that not only outperforms what’s on the market today, but stands up to, and in many cases supersedes oil based PET.”
John graduated from the University of Bradford where he studied for a BSc in Chemistry, after which he completed his PHD in Polymer Chemistry at the University of Leeds. His extensive knowledge and experience within the renewables sector will help Floreon to achieve its goals and move into the US market. He also has a strong backgrounds with startups and has the ability to use technical expertise to evaluate and exploit new technologies, which will prove invaluable.
Floreon is made from the world’s first bioplastic performance material whose manufacture shows reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Made from plants not oil and derived from abundant 100% annually renewable plant resources.
Floreon has been developing its fully recyclable and biodegradable bioplastics for the past four years through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the University of Sheffield. The product has now been analysed and tested in many different applications, with results outperforming other plastics and has passed independent food contact testing by Smithers-Rapra.
Floreon CEO, Shaun Chatterton is delighted with the news;
“This is an incredibly exciting time for Floreon. With Dr. John Williams joining us we have put together a formidable and very credible team that will help us with our plans to commercialise this fantastic and unique bioplastic which genuinely has the potential to change the way we think about plastic and packaging forever.”
Floreon was founded by Shaun Chatterton, from his desire for a greener, safer form of plastic water bottle for office water coolers. Floreon offers significant benefits over conventional PLA and oil based PET being up to four times tougher and requiring less energy to produce respectively.
