The two directors from Hull based Storetec, are aiming to raise more than £6,000 for MacMillan and the Alzheimer’s Society, David Wilkinson, Sales Director, and Neil Robson, Managing Director at the document scanning company have taken on the challenge of a lifetime to climb the highest freestanding mountain in the world - Mount Kilimanjaro.

The Kilimanjaro challenge will push the men to their limits, asking them to climb to an imperious 5,895 metres (19,336 feet). Reaching the dizzying heights of the permanently snow-capped summit is the equivalent of walking up Big Ben an impressive 61 times. The big climb will be taking place from the 10th to 22nd  February 2015.

Both David and Neil will be undergoing rigorous training to help them complete the challenge including sessions in the gym and taking advantage of walks and hills in the UK.

Storetec have chosen to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support and the Alzheimer’s Society. The support that both charities provide is important to a great many people and the donations will allow them to continue their work.

Explaining his excitement at taking on this enormous challenge, David Wilkinson said:

“Climbing Kilimanjaro is a huge challenge for me personally. I’ve never walked more than a couple of miles in one go previously, I always rely on the car. Having said that I enjoy the training and preparation. In addition to the gym sessions I’m seeing some of our fantastic countryside on training walks. I have a very understanding family whose support has been brilliant-even when I go walking for half the weekend.

I’ve been asked a number of “times why climb Kilimanjaro?” The main reason is to raise money for two brilliant charities, the support that they provide is amazing. We hope to raise as much money for them as possible and we know that our families, friends, colleagues and business friends will support us in achieving our goal.”

Neil is also very excited to take on this challenge and raise money for both charities, saying:

“Life is very kind to some and very cruel to others. I have challenged myself in some small ways to even the odds a little. ”
