ICL Chooses StreamServe for PFI Project for Magistrates Courts in England and Wales ICL today announced that it has chosen StreamServe, a leading software company, as the provider of intelligent output management software solutions for its Private Finance Initiative (PFI) project Libra to integrate and take online, all court documentation processing and production for all local magistrates courts in England and Wales, in all 500 court sites. In a deal worth over £450,000, StreamServe's solution will enable the rapid formatting, production and distribution of official documents that are generated by every court hearing. "A case typically generates one or more documents that need to be produced and delivered to a number of different groups. We needed an intelligent software solution that could handle this with minimum re- coding and integrated easily to the large bespoke application development that ICL are undertaking. After evaluating the StreamServe solution, we decided to use it for this very important project" commented, Sal Laher, Technical Director for Project Libra. "StreamServe offers us a high level of flexibility and support combined with a product that is best in its class of output management." Roger Lawson Managing Director of StreamServe UK, commented: "Speeding up the document management and distribution for the courts will help a great deal in improving the efficiency and speed of the legal process. Few people realise the complexity involved in delivering automated systems to address this. We are pleased to be able to support ICL in achieving this goal." The project implementation includes the development of two ICL data centres, each of which communicates with up to 500 local magistrates courts. The data centres are based on Sun's hardware and Solaris platform with local courts running Microsoft Windows2000 on Fujitsu workstations and servers. Each individual courtroom is linked via a LAN with PCs and printers that are connected up to the local server and router. StreamServe will be used to set up templates of all legal documents that are required through the court process. Available in both English and Welsh, these can then be completed with case specific details such as name of defendant, case number and result. Documents can be output in one of several streams, these include: * Printed directly once a ruling is made (i.e. to hand out in the court room immediately) * Batch printed (overnight or next morning) * Email * Fax * To electronic library (for filing and archiving) The printing of documents will be automatic instead of being user driven. It allows for specific subsets of documents to be printed off, without having to run the complete batch, improving efficiency and saving cost. It is also possible to sort against specific criteria (post code, recipient, etc) before printing documents. ICL will install StreamServe in approximately 500 court locations to manage over 600 different document templates with an annual production of approximately 40 to 60 million pages.
