New Jewelry Designer, Kerri Halpern, Celebrated with World Renowned Artists in Book Debuting in December

(New York, NY) November 30, 2011 Debuting in fine book stores in December is SKULL STYLE: Skulls in Contemporary Art and Design”, an artful 400-page coffee table book dedicated to creative works inspired by skulls. Boasting a glow-in-the dark hardcover designed by Lucien Pellat-Finet, the book showcases new jewelry designer Kerri Halpern’s MadSkulls along with works from more than 100 of the most influential artists and designers, such as Ron English, Damien Hirst, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Alexander McQueen. SKULL STYLE will be unveiled at Art Basel,Miami, in December 2011.

It was quite an honor to be featured in this incredible tome of SKULL STYLE,” states designer Kerri Halpern of MadStone Design. “I feel like skull imagery has always surrounded me—in art that I’ve loved, in my fascination with the netherworld, with the dark sides of humanity. In the MadSkulls collection, it is my goal to make skulls intriguing and celebrate their mystery. I take something that many find scary and make them happy and beautiful with 18K gold, diamonds and gemstones.”

Once an emblem of evil and mortality relegated to fringe groups, the skull has been transformed into an avant-garde motif in contemporary art, design and fashion. Featured in the book is an image of the priciest contemporary piece of skull artwork ever made: Damien Hirst‘s sculpture titled "For The Love of God" sold at an art auction for $100 million dollars. This life-size platinum skull was encrusted with 8,601 diamonds and financed by the artist himself. In comparison, Halpern’s MadSkull rings for $1,150 are quite the bargain.

Patrice Farameh, an internationally published editor is using her expert knowledge of the luxury and lifestyle industry to curate this highly illustrated book showcasing the best examples of the bespoke creation of today’s most sought after design. A collectible and limited edition of SKULL STYLE will be available to book collectors, featuring an original signed skull silkscreen book cover by artist Peter Tunney.
