GNS and Studsvik announce strategic exclusive cooperation for problematic waste treatment in Germany
In order to further develop, qualify and implement the Studsvik patented inDRUM technology for the German market GNS and Studsvik have formed a strategic and exclusive cooperation to combine their expertise to tackle the challenge of problematic waste in a safe and efficient way. Studsvik’s inDRUM is a patented technology for the treatment of problematic wastes, such as legacy wastes in aging drums, which results in an inert residue, significant volume reduction and enables drums to be managed with minimal manual handling.
GNS is a specialist in the disposal of high-level radioactive waste and spent fuel from nuclear reactors, as well as in the safe processing, packaging, and storage of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste and residues resulting from the operation of nuclear power plants.
In particular, GNS has advanced expertise and experience in the characterization of nuclear waste materials, associated waste management and treatment activities, decontamination, release and clearance, and the management of waste streams from activated components and building structures of nuclear facilities.
Studsvik has long experience from treating problematic waste with different thermochemical systems as well as offering such solutions to customers.
“Studsvik's unique inDRUM technology is the perfect complement to our well-established waste treatment capabilities. It will enable us to solve even the challenges of treating problematic waste in a safe, efficient, and sustainable way for our customers”, states Daniel Oehr, CEO of GNS.
“Bringing together the GNS capabilities, experience and existing infrastructure in Germany, with the problematic waste thermal treatment technology of Studsvik, we offer solutions to problematic waste for the German market”, says Camilla Hoflund, CEO of Studsvik.
