Studsvik has been granted patents for Treatment of Organic Radioactive Waste and Contaminated Sludge Removal. These methods are employed in Studsvik’s Fluidized Bed Steam Reforming (FBSR) and Freeze-Tec technology commercial offerings.

(U.S. Patent Application No. 16/227,848; Divisional of U.S. Non-Provisional Patent Application No. 14/609,738; APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR TREATMENT OF RADIOACTIVE ORGANIC WASTE)(European Patent Application No. 11775381.4; European Patent No. EP2564395NWB - METHOD AND DEVICE FOR SLUDGE HANDLING)

Studsvik’s FBSR technology provides a superior treatment of high, intermediate, and low radioactive materials, typically produced during commercial nuclear power operation and decommissioning, as well as to treat legacy wastes found at US Department of Energy sites, and similar governmental legacy waste sites from around the world. FBSR is currently completing final testing prior to commencing full scale operation to treat some 900,000 gallons of on-site legacy waste.

Studsvik’s Freeze-Tec technology provides an environmentally safe remediation of contaminated water beds and sludges. The contaminated area is frozen, removed, de-watered safely without creating turbulence or spreading the contaminated matter. This technology has proven particularly effective in treating legacy sites where contamination has leached into surrounding soil and water beds.

FBSR and Freeze-Tec are among several Studsvik innovative technologies offering efficient, and environmentally safe, remediation of radioactive waste. Studsvik stands at the forefront of technology development in waste treatment technologies, based on its long-standing history as a technology innovator in all major facets of the global nuclear arena.
