CORNISH THERAPY ATTRACTING WORLDWIDE ATTENTION

A new technique for combating the physical effects of our increasingly stressful lives has been developed by a Cornish therapist whose expertise is now being sought out by clients worldwide.

Dawn Symons has been a successful practising therapist for more than 24 years. Highly qualified in a wide variety of disciplines including over ten forms of massage, lymph drainage, reflexology, nutrition, Reiki and counselling, she found it impossible to adequately label the highly individual and effective treatments she was able to administer – and so decided to trademark her very own ‘Maga Technique’. Maga is a Cornish verb meaning ‘to nurture’ and it is a fitting description for the combination of treatments, therapies, philosophies and ideas that Dawn uses on an impressive list of clients that includes royalty, the former wife of the Aga Khan and other celebrities. Designed to treat people suffering from acute or chronic pain caused by sports and exercise injuries, back, neck, shoulder and posture-related problems, migraines, jaw issues and grinding teeth as well as the physical and emotional impact of stress, the Maga Technique is unique because it is different for every client. “My aim has always been to gain a thorough understanding of the client’s needs first and then coming up with a blended treatment approach that is right for them,” says Dawn. “Because I’ve got a lot of experience in a range of therapies, I’m able to use all that knowledge and combine it with what I can only call instinct to achieve the best possible outcomes for each and every individual. “My approach is both therapeutic and holistic – using which ever tools in my toolbox are needed at the time. Having been repeatedly asked how I would describe myself during my career, I realised I couldn’t tell people exactly what I do as it is so much and so varied. At the end of the day, though, it comes down to one thing – finding the right treatment for a body which is probably suffering from both physical and psychological pain.” Dawn’s growing reputation as a world-class therapist has attracted clients from as far afield as Australia, Africa and Europe. She practises regularly at the Hale Clinic in London and guests at the prestigious Hotel Tresanton in St Mawes, Cornwall, are also able to access her services. One look at the number of testimonials on Dawn’s website gives a good indication of the general esteem in which she is held. “I have had a number of treatments with Dawn over the last few years starting with reflexology when I was pregnant with my second child,” writes personal trainer Wendy Powell. “I had a particularly traumatic birth due to a post partum haemorrhage and was helicoptered to hospital so it was all a bit dramatic! Dawn has helped me tremendously, using a combination of cranial sacral therapy, massage and other healing therapies to ease the physical as well as emotional trauma. I discovered though the process that both my births had had a profound effect on my body and emotional state and Dawn has been absolutely integral to my recovery. I recommend her without reservation on a very personal as well as professional level. She really is amazing and, as well as her technical expertise, she has a true gift for helping people.” Having successfully beaten cancer herself in the mid 1990s, Dawn has a real understanding of the deep emotional scars that serious illness and other life-changing events can have. “My own experience made me even more determined to acquire the knowledge and skill needed to help bring body and soul back to health and happiness,” she says. “That’s what the Maga Technique is all about and I’m delighted that so many people are feeling the benefit.” For further information, visit www.quintessential-therapies.com Ends 9 December 2010 Media enquiries: Sue Bradbury Tel: 01872 863863 E: sue@suebradburypr.com Notes to editors Dawn is willing to give a free treatment to demonstrate The Maga Technique in return for a feature.
