NEW DU MAURIER FESTIVAL PATRON SCHEME

A new patron scheme has been launched to mark the fourteenth anniversary of the hugely popular Daphne Du Maurier Festival in Fowey.

In line with similar festivals throughout the country, there are now three levels of patronage available – silver, gold and platinum – with each level offering significant degrees of benefit in terms of advanced bookings and fast track entrance to the festival marquee. 2011 represents a real milestone for the event which will run from 12-21 May because, for the first time in its history, Fowey Town Council, in partnership with Fowey Chamber of Commerce, has taken on the responsibility of managing it from Cornwall Council. The latter plans to gradually reduce the financial support it provides over the next few years. This year’s festival promises to be exceptional with celebrities like Ann Widdecombe, Alistair Campbell, Tim Rice, Jenny Eclair, Shakin Stevens, stand-up comedian Greg Davis, internationally renowned percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie and the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain already confirmed as taking part. Patrons will get advanced notification of the full programme and be given the chance to reserve seats before general booking opens. “We have done a lot of work on the new scheme and are confident that it provides members with very attractive benefits,” said committee member and local Fowey businessman David Willmore. “This is an important year for us. We know from an official survey carried out last year that the Daphne du Maurier Festival has a very positive impact on the local economy but, to keep it going, we need people to support us. Becoming a patron is a great way of doing that.” Gold patronage will be limited to 150 and Platinum to 75 to give members a significantly greater chance of getting into the most popular shows than those who do not join.
