OPRAH’S THANK YOU GAME RAPIDLY REPORTS THE SPREAD OF GRATITUDE TO 2.3 MILLION IN THE FIRST 36 HOURS OF GAME LAUNCH

San Francisco (May 2, 2012) – Today Oprah’s Thank You Game exceeded expectations and broke new ground on the first day and a half of launch. "We've spread gratitude to 2.3 million people in just 36 hours,” said game designer Jane McGonigal, Chief Creative Officer for SuperBetter Labs. "It goes to show the power of games can work to motivate and engage us in new ways, as we were able to easily spread gratitude to so many so quickly! Half a billion here we come!"
The SuperBetter Labs team co-designed Oprah’s “Thank You Game” in partnership with the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), and it was the company’s first title developed specifically for the Facebook platform (facebook.com/owntv). Oprah’s Thank You Game was built with the goal of spreading the positive emotion of gratitude to half a billion people worldwide.
SuperBetter Labs’ research into the science of gaming, social networks and the contagious nature of gratitude had showed that one properly articulated “thank you” can reach up to 258 people. From that insight, Chief Creative Officer Jane McGonigal and Director of Design Chelsea Howe worked with OWN to develop an interactive way of encouraging displays of gratitude via the social graph.
