Called lingual braces and recently featured on WGN Medical Watch the brackets and wires are placed behind the teeth, hidden and unnoticeable to anyone but you and your orthodontist. While the concept of lingual is not totally new, orthodontists have avoided offering them because of the technical difficulty in executing ‘behind teeth’ braces. Orthodontist Dr. John Dumas of Birmingham, MI. says he is seeing more professional women in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s than ever before now that invisible braces are an option. “We’re getting several calls a week from middle aged professional women interested in lingual braces. Most have wanted to straighten their teeth for years but never felt comfortable with the idea of braces and the stigma that goes along with it.”  

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, 1 out of every 5 patients is an adult (18+), up nearly 60% from just 10 years ago, and that trend continues to grow as adults hold on to their own teeth longer and technology in orthodontics continues to grow.
