Independent write-in candidate Charles B. "ChuckM" Meyer commutes with constituents
Houston Candidate is rolling through the 18th Congressional District to stop politics as usual.
Houston, TX – October 25, 2010 – Charles B. "ChuckM" Meyer is taking his campaign to the streets, literally. The independent write-in candidate for the 18th Congressional District is spreading his campaign message from an unusual pulpit – a seat on METRO.
Each day through November 2, Meyer is touring the District by METRO bus or light rail. With the slogan "Rolling through the 18th to Stop Politics as Usual," Meyer is happy for the opportunity to talk with commuters about issues that affect their daily lives, including how METRO services can be improved.
"Federal Funding for METRO is essential to the continued development and improvement of Houston’s mass transit system and to Houston’s overall economy," Meyer said. "I am using my METRO Q® card whenever I can to get from one campaign stop to another."
Meyer believes that residents of the District deserve a representative who has actually logged miles on the system, someone who understands what people want and need from Metro. "I want to work with the Metropolitan Transit Authority to fight for increased federal funding and to make sure we have the most energy-efficient, cost-effective and modern mass transit system in the country," he said. "Our METRO system should serve as an example of how federal tax dollars can be spent wisely as a part of a working partnership between all levels of government and the private sector."
Meyer encourages those who see him riding METRO bus or light rail to share their thoughts – not only regarding METRO but also about how to take Washington and the nation in a new direction.
Meyer wants those who are thinking of not voting because they feel they don’t have a choice to understand that they do have a choice. He is presenting himself as a fresh alternative to politics as usual.
