AssiDomän builds corrugated packaging plant in Poland AssiDomän decided today to build a corrugated packaging plant in Poland. The plant, which will be located between Warsaw and Poznan, is projected to be completed in the autumn of 1998. The total investment is about SEK 80 million. The plant will be a sheet plant that makes packaging from finished sheets of corrugated board. It will be completed at the same time as the new corrugated packaging plant at Zebrak in the Czech Republic, and will get a large portion of its corrugated sheets from there. The volume of corrugated packaging will 2 amount to about 30 million m per year. "With its high rate of economic growth and large development potential, Poland is a very important market," says Ulf Kilander, President of AssiDomän Packaging. "There is a great need for good packaging, and the country is the largest and fastest-growing market for corrugated packaging in Central Europe. Market growth during the past years has averaged about 15 percent per annum, compared with three percent for Europe as a whole." "Poland has a strategic location in Central Europe, and the new plant will be an important unit in our European network of corrugated packaging plants," says Lars Richardson, President of AssiDomän Packaging Central & Eastern Europe. "Many pan-European customers are already established in Poland, and it is natural for us to establish ourselves there to be able to serve them. "The new plant will be the first step in our establishment in Poland, and we are also planning to further strengthen our presence on this important market." AssiDomän Packaging, which is AssiDomän's corrugated packaging business, currently has nearly 60 plants in twelve countries. Its total production 2 volume amounts to 1,500 million m of corrugated board and 1,180,000 tonnes of liner and fluting per annum. AssiDomän is one of Europe's leading forest products companies.
