AssiDomän to start manufacturing releaseliner in the US AssiDomän Barrier Coating is to set up releaseliner production in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The largest market is the US, which accounts for approximately 60 per cent of the business units sales. Barrier Coating already has customising service and warehouse facilities in Minneapolis, manufacturing will be set up on existing premises. This represents a total investment of MSEK 25. Production is scheduled to start in mid-1999. Annual turnover is expected to reach approximately MSEK 100 within three years. As a result, AssiDomän will establish the first production facility outside Europe. Barrier Coating is the world leader within the double-sided, coated releaseliner segment. Production is carried out at AssiDomän Inncoat in Raubling, Germany. Customers are located in the US, Europe and Asia. This product area has experienced very rapid growth in recent years. Market growth of up to 10 per cent is expected per year. "I see this as a natural step. This will give us greater proximity to our customers in the US, which is a very important and exciting market for us. This establishment also means that we by complementing our product range are opening the door to an even larger market and can grow still further," says Arne Rengstedt, head of Barrier Coating Business Unit. Releaseliner is a specially coated paper, often with several coatings, which is used as protective paper for self-adhesive material. Releaseliner is used for example, for road signs, reflecting strips on ambulances police cars, etc., and on labels for frozen goods. The base paper used includes kraft paper from sister companies within the AssiDomän Group.
