Swap agreement with Federal Reserve extended
The Riksbank has decided to extend the temporary swap agreement for up to USD 60 billion with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The extended agreement applies up to and including 31 December 2021.
The swap agreement with the Federal Reserve was first concluded in March 2020 and is now being extended for a third time. The current agreement runs up to and including 30 September 2021 but is being extended up to and including 31 December 2021. The agreement is part of a wider arrangement between the Fed and a number of other central banks around the world aimed at improving liquidity conditions in US dollars on global financial markets.
The swap agreement with the Federal Reserve gives the Riksbank greater opportunities to lend US dollars to Swedish banks if necessary. The Riksbank is currently offering loans to banks in US dollars against collateral. This programme applies until 30 September 2021. Today's decision does not concern this lending programme.
