Sweco announces the acquisition of Valstar Simonis BV, an engineering and consultancy company specialised in circularity and technical installations for sustainability, comfort and safety in buildings. The acquisition strengthens Sweco’s team with the addition of some 60 experts who are joining the company’s Dutch organisation of 2,200 architects, engineers and consultants.

“Market demand for sustainable and future-proofed solutions in the built environment is increasing in pace with Europe’s need to accelerate the green transition of urban areas. With 75% of the existing buildings in Europe having a poor energy performance, buildings need to become more energy efficient and decarbonised to reach the EU’s climate targets,” says Åsa Bergman, President and CEO of Sweco.

Sweco sees increasing demand for niche services for public and private buildings, covering design and technical installations in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and measurement and control technology. This acquisition strengthens Sweco’s position as one of the leading companies in the Netherlands in the field of sustainable buildings.

“By adding the niche knowledge and skills of some 60 experts from Valstar Simonis, we are further strengthening our capacity in the Netherlands in the fields of sustainability, comfort and safety in buildings. The competence of the new experts will complement the existing 2,200 architects, engineers and environmental consultants of our Dutch organisation and together we will create more value and even more sustainable solutions for our clients,” says Åsa Bergman.

Valstar Simonis had a turnover of approximately EUR 7.7 million in 2023 and Sweco Netherlands had a turnover of approximately EUR 244 million in 2023. The acquisition was closed on the 5th of July and Valstar Simonis will be part of Sweco immediately.

The acquisition is in line with Sweco’s acquisition strategy to grow the business by adding key skills that complement Sweco’s 22,000 experts, and it will strengthen the offering to clients as well as expand the Group’s market position as Europe’s leading architecture and engineering consultancy.
