SWECO, together with Grontmij, has been awarded an extensive consultancy contract for the planned City Line in Stockholm. The contract is worth a total of around EUR 10.6 million.

“We’re very excited about the prospect of continuing to work on the development of the City Line. It’s a complex rail project which, when it’s completed, will double the track capacity through Stockholm and make daily travel much easier for a lot of rail passengers,” says Björn Kvist, the project leader at SWECO VBB.

The contract includes planning and drawing up the construction documents, producing the complete tender documentation, involvement in the construction phase and preparing administrative data for four large contracts on the stretch between Odenplan and Tomteboda.

“We’re currently involved in many of the large projects aimed at improving the Swedish road and rail network. In recent years we have been awarded infrastructure contracts worth more than half a billion Swedish kronor in the Stockholm area alone,” says Mats Påhlsson, MD of SWECO VBB.

The City Line is a double-track rail line with two new stations in a tunnel around six kilometres in length which connects the Stockholm South commuter station and Tomteboda. The new line will double the track capacity through Stockholm and allow for more frequent and more punctual train connections in Stockholm and the Mälardal region. It will also have a beneficial effect on rail traffic in the remainder of Sweden.
