SWECO VIAK has been awarded a major planning and design contract by the Eskisehir Water & Sewerage Administration General Directorate (ESKI) in Eskisehir, Turkey, some 200 km west of Ankara. The contract is valued at EUR 2.6 million and will be carried out in collaboration with the Turkish consulting engineering firm TEMPO.

”We have longstanding experience and expertise in handling international wastewater treatment projects of this size. The project will create opportunities for SWECO to expand its presence in the water and environment sector of the Turkish market,” says Christer Andersson Overseas Manager at SWECO VIAK. SWECO VIAK will be responsible for planning and design, procurement and construction management for upgrading and enlargement of the existing wastewater treatment plant. Around ten consultants from SWECO VIAK will be involved in the project. The project will begin at the end of September and is scheduled for completion in December 2011. At present, the plant is able to handle only half of the wastewater volume and therefore requires upgrading. The new facility will triple the current treatment capacity and will be dimensioned to serve a population of 820,000. The client is Municipality of Eskisehir’s General Directorate of Water & Sewerage Administration (ESKI). The project will be funded by the EIB (European Investment Bank). SWECO VIAK has other major international wastewater projects that are currently being carried out in Jordan and in Hungary.
