SWECO awarded wind power assignment in Norway

SWECO has been instrumental in developing several of Norway’s largest wind power farms. In connection with the planned construction of three new wind farms, SWECO’s Norwegian subsidiary SWECO Grøner has been given responsibility for the related environmental impact assessments (EIA).

Our combination of technical know-how and environmental expertise has given us a central role as consultant in the ongoing expansion of Norway’s wind power,” says Vibecke Hverven, Managing Director of SWECO Grøner. Norway is one of the European countries with the best conditions for establishing wind power. A number of investments are being made with the goal of raising the country’s annual wind power output to 3 Twh by 2010. The three new wind farms for which SWECO Grøner will perform EIAs will be built in Oksbåsheia, Kvenndalsfjellet and Haugshornet. The clients are Nord-Trøndelag Energiverk, Norsk Hydro and Statkraft Development. The assignment is worth close to 200,000 euro. SWECO Grøner’s consultants have been engaged in a large number of wind power assignments since 1998, and have provided services such as environmental analysis, technical planning and engineering design. SWECO Grøner has also contributed to the construction of two of Norway’s largest wind farms, in Hitra and Smøla.
