SWECO has been awarded a new contract in connection with enlargement of the Theun-Hinboun hydropower plant in central Laos. The contract is worth an estimated EUR 865,000.

SWECO’s Swedish and Norwegian hydropower experts will analyse the technical and economic feasibility of a capacity increase in the existing hydropower plant. The enlargement is intended to be accomplished by a new dam with upstream reservoir and possibly a new power plant. The assignment will be carried out on behalf of the privately owned Theun-Hinboun Power Company. Theun-Hinboun is one of the largest tributaries to the Mekong River. The topographical conditions and intensive monsoon periods make the river excellently suited for hydropower production. The assignment is expected to run for 12 months and will be carried out in collaboration with the Vietnamese sub-consultant Power Engineering Consulting Company from Hanoi. Participating companies from SWECO are SWECO VBB, SWECO VIAK, SWECO Grøner and SWECO PIC. SWECO has previously been active in both hydropower and road projects in Laos.
