SCA and Statkraft have formed a joint company for large-scale wind power investment in northern Sweden. SWECO has been chosen to manage the project and will also contribute specialist expertise in a number of areas.

“This is Sweden’s largest wind power investment by far, and we are naturally glad to be playing such a central role in the project,” says Erik Severin, Managing Director of SWECO Energuide.

In the first phase, SWECO will perform studies on the intended sites and drive the necessary permitting processes including environmental impact assessments (EIA). The assignment also includes everything from visualisation of the parks to power grid studies and planning of access roads on behalf of the newly formed company Statkraft SCA Vind AB.

“SWECO has breadth and experience of managing major projects in the energy area. Now we have been given total responsibility in a way that spans across many of our fields of expertise. Several of our environmental and energy specialists will be involved in the assignment,” says Erik Severin.

The venture includes studies for possible installation of wind turbines with a capacity of more than 1,000 MW and an annual electricity output of 2,800 GWh, divided between seven wind farms in Jämtland and Västernorrland. All wind parks will be built in inland areas.
