Sweco has been contracted for extensive engineering design services in connection with construction of new power transmission lines in western Sweden and replacement of old lines in northern Sweden. This will result in a more secure supply of electricity with higher capacity. The client is Svenska kraftnät (the Swedish national grid operator) and the value of the contract is over EUR 4.3 million.

“Several of Sweden’s power lines are old and need to be upgraded. Sweco is playing a clear and important role in developing the more sustainable energy supply of the future. This work will consist among other things of dismantling and replacing parts of the world’s first 400 kV line, which must now be rebuilt due to advanced age and insufficient capacity,” says Erik Severin, President of Sweco Energuide.

In the assignment, Sweco will design power lines in the national grid between the municipalities of Sollefteå and Ragunda and between the municipalities of Trollhättan and Lerum. Sweco will be responsible for detail planning, site surveys, steel and concrete structures and visualisation.

Sweco’s work will begin immediately and will continue until the lines have gone into operation. The new power lines will be ready to go into service in 2018 and 2020, respectively.
