Sweco has been selected by Statens vegvesen to plan construction of one of Norway’s longest tunnels, to be located in the Telemark region. The value of the contract is nearly SEK 40 million.

“This is an important road project in the heart of Telemark. We look forward to developing a solution that increases traffic safety, shortens travel time and reduces environmental impact,” say Tron Kjølhamar, President of Sweco Norway.

Sweco’s assignment includes planning of a more than nine km long tunnel on Road E134. In this process, Sweco will contribute specialists such as geotechnical/rock engineers, geologists, environmental experts and design engineers. As a result of the road project, the current hilly stretch of 23 kms will be reduced to a straight and even distance of 12 km.

Planning and design work will begin immediately and the finished road is expected to open for traffic in 2018.
