In 2021, Sweco employed 18,000 experts working together in more than 100,000 projects worldwide. Despite yet a challenging year with the pandemic, Sweco was able to grow and further strengthen the position as Europe’s leading architecture and engineering consultancy, continuing to transform society together with clients.

Net sales increased to approximately SEK 22 billion, with a margin of 9.5 per cent. During the year, eight acquisitions were completed, and more than 400 new experts were welcomed to Sweco. The demand for Sweco’s services was mainly driven by strong megatrends connected to sustainability and digitalisation.

“Together with our clients, many important steps have been taken during the year in the ongoing sustainable transformation, for people and the environment. I am confident that the speed and efforts will be increased during the year to come,” says Åsa Bergman, President and CEO of Sweco.

Sustainability is an important and integrated part of Sweco’s strategy, with commitment to sustainable development in our work by:

  • Driving sustainable transformation through client projects
  • Increasing sustainability performance in client projects
  • Acting sustainably in Sweco’s own operations

Last year, Sweco consultants contributed to sustainable development in projects, by supporting clients in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The sustainability work within Sweco’s own operations accelerated, with focus on people, climate and business ethics.

The goal is to become climate neutral no later than 2040 and to act as the frontrunner on all markets where Sweco operates. In 2021, the emissions were reduced by 10 per cent.

Sweco is an international workplace with an inclusive and supportive culture based on collaboration. Employee satisfaction scores remain high and Sweco continues to be ranked among the most gender equal companies in Europe.
