The first SWECO consultants have been accredited as energy assessors and can now perform energy performance certification of buildings according to the Swedish Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s regulations. SWECO Theorells has also become an accredited inspection body for these activities.

”Modern homes and commercial premises are big energy users, accounting for around 40 per cent of Sweden’s total energy consumption. We have already been working for many years to help property owners become more efficient and save energy, and this experience is now being put to good use,” says Karin Annerwall Parö, Managing Director of SWECO Theorells.

An energy performance certificate contains a description of energy usage in the inspected building, as well as a comparison with other similar buildings and recommended measures to improve the buildings energy performance.

The market is huge. Before the end of 2008, virtually all multi-dwelling units in the country must be assessed and certified. We have already been booked for a couple of major energy certification assignments,” says Lars Olof Matsson, who is responsible for energy certification activities at SWECO.

Sweden’s Act on Energy Certification is the starting shot for a nationwide effort to reduce energy usage in homes and non-residential buildings. To perform energy certifications, a company must be an accredited inspection body and must have accredited energy assessors.
