Sweco has been commissioned by the European Investment Bank (EIB) to provide technical assistance for a major investment in electricity transmission in the West Bank. The project is worth approximately SEK 9 million for Sweco.

– A major investment is underway to restructure the West Bank electricity grid, financed mainly by the EU. Sweco’s work will help secure the electricity supply and provide essential conditions for sustainable development of society in the region, says Kaj Möller, Head of Export at Sweco.

Sweco will provide technical assistance for the construction of four new transformer stations and will design a control centre for the new transmission network. As EIB advisor, Sweco will play a key support role in the process and ensure that work proceeds according to schedule and is conducted in accordance with the established specifications. Sweco’s experts will also be responsible for training the Palestinian energy agency PENRA and the newly-formed transmission system operator PETL to manage future projects of this type on their own.

The new stations are expected to be operational in early 2016.
