Sweco Industry has won an engineering assignment from STX Finland Cruise. The assignment includes hull and machinery engineering for a car-passenger ferry and its sister ship for the British shipping company P&O Ferries. The ferries will be constructed at the STX shipyard in Rauma, Finland

The ferries will be designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. For example, there will be set limits for the consumption of fuel in place. This is made possible by the hydro-dynamically efficiently designed hull.

The ferries will operate on the British P&O Ferries’ route between Dover and Calais. When finished, they will be the largest ferries in the English Channel, with a length of 210 metres and weight of 49 000 gross tonnes. The ferries can hold 2’000 passengers.

The scope of work which Sweco is responsible for will employ approximately 40 Sweco specialists at the maximum.

The ferries with the total value of 360 million euro will be delivered in 2010 and 2011.
