Sweco has been given total responsibility for construction design in connection with major investments by the forestry group Södra at its pulp mill in Värö, Sweden. The investments will result in significantly increased production capacity for paper pulp. The contract value for Sweco amounts to over EUR 3.8 million.

“Sweco has been awarded the contract thanks to its in-depth expertise and experience from the forestry industry, and because it has the resources to deliver all of the construction consulting services that we need,” says Jonas Eriksson, Site Manager at Södra Cell Värö.

The expansion will increase the pulp mill’s production capacity from 425,000 to 700,000 tonnes of pulp per year. The mill will be one of the world’s largest producers of pine sulphate pulp, which is used in products like toilet tissue, napkins and household towels.

“This is one of the biggest investments taking place in the forestry industry right now. For Sweco, the contract means that we will be able to contribute to important growth opportunities for a pulp mill that has long been a forerunner with regard to environmental consideration and renewable energy,” says Sören Hed, President of Sweco Structures.
