In the future, the Municipality of Strängnäs will be supplied with drinking water from a waterworks in the Stockholm suburb of Norsborg. SWECO has been chosen to plan and design the around 32 km long of pipeline to be laid along the lake bed of Lake Mälaren.

”This will be Sweden’s longest lake bed water supply line. We have worked with SWECO in several earlier projects and have been highly satisfied with the company’s knowledge and expertise. We are confident that they will handle the project in a professional manner” says project manager Anders Ward at the Stockholm Water Company. As part of the assignment, the lake bed will be carefully analysed using sonar and special scanning equipment to detect the presence of debris along the intended alignment. The pipeline will also cross a number of shipping lanes, placing considerable demands on the planning and design process. SWECO’s contract from the Stockholm Water Company is worth close to EUR 530,000. The total project investment is estimated at nearly EUR 23 million. When completed, the pipeline will have total length of around 50 km.
