Sweco has been commissioned by the Russian central road administration for a large-scale review of bridge standards in four regions of Russia. This will result in an action plan to raise the standard and improve the safety of the bridges. The contract is valued at close to EUR 3.5 million.

“From a socioeconomic perspective, it is an important assignment since it extends the useful life of the bridges and makes the Russian infrastructure safer and more efficient. The assignment places very high demands on expertise and accurate assessments. The fact that Sweco has been entrusted with this task is an acknowledgement of our knowhow in this area,” says Bo Carlsson, President of Sweco Russia.

In the assignment, Sweco’s consultants will evaluate bridge standards in the Russian regions of Murmansk, Leningrad, Magadan and Yakutija. In stage one a status analysis will be carried out and in stage two a programme for repair and maintenance of the bridges will be prepared. Sweco will contribute with expertise in bridge, road and concrete construction. Work will be underway until the end of 2014.
