SWECO has been chosen by SCA, Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget, to plan and design a new paper mill in Tula, some 150 km south of Moscow, Russia. The mill is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2008.

”SCA has chosen to team with us in Russia. With our longstanding experience of large and complex projects for the industrial sector, I believe that we can provide security in development of the project. In addition, we have been collaborating successfully in Sweden for many years,” says Sören Hed, Managing Director of SWECO BLOCO. SWECO BLOCO will plan and design the heart of the paper mill, the pulp preparation and paper machine facility. This is where raw material in the form of recycled paper is purified and converted into pulp for manufacturing of tissue in the paper machine. The tissue is then made into kitchen rolls, toilet paper and napkins. SWECO BLOCO has been given responsibility for planning, design and coordination of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering and architecture in all development phases of the project. The first stage involves construction of production line 1 including paper machine TM 1, which is designed to produce around 90 tonnes of tissue per day at a rate of 1 800 meters per minute. The total investment cost for the new production line in the Moscow region is SEK 500 million.
