Aker Yards Oy has commissioned SWECO to provide engineering services for Genesis, the largest luxury cruiser in the world. Genesis is being constructed at Aker Yards shipyard in Turku, Finland, and will be completed in 2009. For SWECO, the total value of the Genesis contract is nearly EUR 1.5 million.

SWECO Marine, a member of the SWECO PIC group in Finland, will provide finite element analysis of hull structures and engineering of machinery systems for separator, air condition compressor and fresh water generation spaces. The company will also provide detailed hull engineering of demanding structures beneath the outdoor sports activity areas.

“We are very pleased with this engineering contract, as it will expand our involvement in engineering of large cruise vessels, and further strengthen SWECO’s position in Finland,” says Matti Mattila, Vice President and Head of Marine Technology Division of SWECO PIC.

The engineering work has already started and will occupy up to 40 engineers from SWECO Marine and its network in Finland and abroad.

Ordered by Royal Caribbean Cruises, Genesis will be the largest luxury cruiser in the world with space for 5,400 passengers and a value of approximately EUR 900 million.

SWECO PIC provides industrial customers with consulting, design, engineering and project management services for plant investments, product development and production.
