Sweco has been commissioned to provide design services for a new building (“House G”) at Klinikum Stuttgart. The building will house the latest cancer therapy and nuclear medicine technologies.

Ina Brandes, President of Sweco Central Europe, says: “Sweco’s architects face a variety of complexity in this major project. The new building needs to be connected to adjacent buildings while clinical operations are underway. Some areas of these buildings are extremely sensitive to any kind of disturbances such as noise or vibrations. Our architects’ recognised expertise in medical building planning and design services will prove invaluable to the successful completion of this project.”

The building will be part of a larger complex of clinic buildings in Stuttgart’s city centre. The EUR 36.4 million project, under which Sweco's services comprise a small portion, includes object planning services for House G as well as structural design, general planning services, fire protection measures, technical equipment and thermal building physics.

The old building needs to be cleared and dismantled before the new project is commenced. House G will comprise a total of 6,350m² of usable area distributed over eight storeys, two of which will be subterranean. House G will offer wards for nuclear medicine and radiotherapy as well as functional areas for nuclear medicine including PET-CT and brachytherapy. The Stuttgart Cancer Centre, administrative sectors and individual surgeries will also be located in the building.

The project started in January 2017. House G will open for patients in late 2020.
